District Social Welfare Office

The District  social welfare officers are responsible for the actual implementation of the welfare Schemes at the District level and they are assisted by the field staff.

 I. Schemes in Social Welfare

1.Girl Child Protection Scheme Fixed deposit of Rs.15,200/- will be made in each girl child's name, if there are two girl children,under scheme. In case, if the family has only one girl child, Fixed Deposit of Rs.22,200/- will be made in the girl child's name under scheme I Rs. 50,000/- per annum for Scheme I if there is only one girl child to the parents and Rs.12,000 per annum for Scheme II The District Social Welfare Officer
2.Puratchi Thalaivar MGR Nutritious Meal Programme

 

To provide adequate nutrition to the children in the age group of 2 to 5 years pre-school children in the child welfare centers and children above 5 years of age studying in school from std I to X and thereby to improve the health and nutrition status of the children and develop their mental & Physical ability To open nutritious meal center in schools, a minimum no of 25 children is required District collector / Personal Assistant (NMP) to the Collector

 

II. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE MARRIAGE OF POOR GIRLS WHO HAVE STUDIED 10th STANDARD AND ABOVE

1.Tamilagaarasu  Kalappu Thirumana Ndihi Udhavi Thittam
1. Aim of the Scheme                      To abolish Caste and Community feelings based on birth and wiping out the evils of untouchability.  An incentive of Rs. 10000/-(Rs. 7000 in the form of National Savings Certificate and Rs. 3000/- cash towards marriage expenses) is given to the inter caste Marriage couples.  An incentive of Rs. 20000/-(Rs. 10000 as NSC and Rs.10000/-cash towards marriage expenses) is given to the inter caste marriage couples if anyone of the spouse is SC/STT for marriages performed from 2.10.97 and there is no income ceiling.
2.   Conditions of the Schemes

 

 

 

 

 

1.    (a)  One of the Inter-Caste marriage Spouses               should be SC/ST

      (b)  Marriage between Forward Backward               Community or MBC.

2.  No income limit for Marriage performed from        2.10.97 if anyone of the spouse belongs to        SC/ST and no income ceiling for other      marriages performed from 23.4.98.

The Scheme was transferred from Adi-dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department to Social Welfare Department during September 1990

 

2.  Annai Therasa Ninaivu Orphan Girls Marriage Assistance Scheme
1.  Aim of the Scheme To help financially orphan girls for their marriage assistance Rs. 10000/- is provided.
2.   Conditions of the Scheme  1.  Should be an orphan Annual income should not be more than Rs. 12000/- per annum.  should be between the age of 20 and 30 years only one Orphan from a family can avail this facility
3.  Year of Starting    1985-86

 

3.  Dr . Dharmambal Ammaiyar widows Remarriages Assistance Scheme
1.  Aim of the Scheme Rehabilitation of widow by presenting incentives in the form of National Savings Certificate to both husband and wife to the value of Rs. 7000/- to be kept in deposit for 6 years and Rs. 3000/-cash.
2.   Conditions of the Scheme Restricted to destitute widows only in the age group of 20 to 30 years.
3.  Years of Starting   1975-76

 

4. E.V.R. Maniammaiyar Widows Daughters Marriage Assistance Scheme
1  Aim of the Scheme To Avoid the delay in the performance of marriage of the daughters of poor widow for want of adequate funds.
2.   Conditions of the Scheme 1.  Family income of the widow should not be more the Rs. 12,000/- per annum.

2.  Age of bride i.e. daughter of widow between 20 and 30 years.

3.  This assistance of Rs. 10000/- allowed to only one daughter of the widow.

3.  Year of Starting    1981-82

 

5. Free Supply of Text Books And Note Books to Widow Children Studying up to X Standard and Higher Secondary Course.
1.  Aim of the Scheme Free Supply of text books and note books to widow a Children studying up to X Standard and Higher Secondary Course.
2.   Conditions of the Scheme Family income of the widow should not be more than Rs.12,000/- per annum.
3.  Year of Starting   1978-79
4.  Quantum of Assistance I std to II std      = Rs.50 p.a.per child.

III std to V std   = Rs.125 p.a.per Child.

IV std to VIII std =Rs.175 p.a.per Child.

IX std and X std =Rs.300 p.a.per Child.

+1 and +2 Classes 1 Rs. 600 p.a.per Child

 

6.  Annai Sathyavani Muthu Free Supply of Sewing Machine to Destitute Women.
1.  Aim of the Scheme Rehabilitation of Destitute Widow Deserted wives socially handicapped women and physically handicapped men and women.
2.   Conditions of the Schemes Destitute Widows Socially handicapped women and physically handicapped men and women in the age group of 20-40 years. Should know tailoring.

 

8.  Sivagami Ammaiyar Girl Child Protection Scheme:
1.  Aim of the Scheme To promote family planning discourage the tendency to prefer male child and eradicate female infanticide.
2. Conditions of the Schemes The parent should have one or two girl children and no male child. mother within the age of 40 years should have undergone sterilization Annual income below Rs.12000.  The 2nd Girl Child should less than 3 years of age at the time enrolment.
3.  year of Starting    1992-93
4.  Nature of Assistance A sum of Rs.3000/-is deposited for a single female child and Rs.1500/- each for two female children in a family.

 

9.  Mahalir Mandrams
1.  Aim of the Scheme Mahalir Mandrams have been organized to bring together the women of rural areas cutting across various social and economical barriers
2.  Year of Starting 1961
3.  Number of Units   22 blocks
4.  Strength   660 Mahalir Mandrams

 

a)  Cash awards to Best Mahalir Mandrams:
1.  Aim of the Scheme To develop the economic activities through Mahalir Mandrams
2.   Conditions of the Scheme The best Mahalir Mandrams will be selected on the merit of marks obtained in all the activities.
